3 Cs of building great teams

We are Nymbl

Building a quality system needs highly qualified and experienced people. It’s well documented that inexperienced engineers deliver a faulty product with delays.

Rework is a major problem for time-bound deliveries.

Three things that Project Managers need to be aware towards a building a successful team for product or project delivery.

ConsistencyClarityCompetence

Let’s us touch-base on the three.

One, Consistency is the demand of the day due to agile methodologies. Tech stacks have become standardized over the years. For example, for an Angular JS based development, the consultant needs to have Atleast 5-6 years of core development experience coupled with platform knowledge to make quality applications. The consultant must have worked on single page or multi page applications as a pre-requisite for developing an application on top of platforms such as Salesforce or SAP or any other large ERP system. Standardization of Tech-stack has demanded an equally high skill set for a UI developer. Past experience serves as an important parameter for success in today’s agile DevOps and ProdOps. I recommend PMs to give experience as the highest rating for the successful outcome of their projects.

Two, Clarity in thought and application. When you try to hire a consultant, focus on clarity in their minds. They need to know the complete tech stack and it’s dependencies. Don’t look for Jack of All trades. Look for master in One but with sound understand of the complete tech domain in which that technology can deliver maximum output. For example, if you are hiring an Angular JS UI expert, you need to know whether they understand DevOps, database dependencies, API connectivity dependencies and have atleast done a complete DevOps procedure atleast once in their lifetime experience. I recommend PMs to consider Clarity of thought and application as the second but equally important in adding a consultant to their team.

Three, Competence in their major skill. You must not hire a person without a standard certification unless backed by 5-6 years of relevant experience. No one consultant can specialize into multiple areas in recent verifiable experience. So hire those consultants which demonstrate highest competency in their chosen field.

My recommendation to PMs is to give Competence in 1 area as a major weightage while deciding to hire.

If you are considering the above three areas for hiring a consultant then give weightage to three Cs as follows:

1st C – 50% (nothing can beat experience)

2nd C – 30% (nothing can beat focus and analytical mind)

3rd C – 20% (nothing can beat a certification from a trade body or proprietary product/platform/techstack)

In summary my recommendation is : Hire using 3C benchmark for building a great team.
