Serverless Architecture

A new oxymoronic term has been coined ‘Serverless Architecture’. Can any software exist without a server? Serverless Architecture is increasingly becoming a new term almost replaceable with Cloud Architecture. The only thing common in serverless architecture is the remotely managed and orchestrated server by your cloud service provider. It’s a concept of convenience and a revenue generator for cloud service providers. It will also become the new architecture standard in next couple of Weeks. This is the new concept which is already revolutionizing everything including Devops, Data Management, Application Architectures, AI, ML, Web + Mobile App development and Application support.

In layman terms, what it means for a CIO/CTO? Everything related to system administration, application development, hosting, data management and Server Management is done using application services provided by the Cloud Service provider.

All tools provided by your CSP are used in an interconnected pattern to help you achieve your business automation needs. Your IT teams will use every single tool provided by your CSP to build you a solution. You may add additional components on top of your CSP provided tools, but on their managed services. In short, Integration of all services provided by your CSP to build a solution for your business relying on the inherent capabilities of your CSP platform, is the new Serverless Architecture. A cloud solution built on top of Cloud solution.Essentially you are combining IAAS, PAAS, SAAS and everything else into one single Solutioning pattern. You use your CSP as a Infrastructure As a Service (IAAS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), Software as a Service (SaaS), Data as a Service (DaaS) and so on. So your CSP platform actually drives your IT. It is cheaper in terms of Accounting. Everything is Operational Expense (OPEX) instead of Capital expense (CAPEX). You can start your IT department immediately with virtually no investment. You can migrate all your applications over to serverless architecture and virtually pay less for everything that you were doing. You can downsize your IT, sunset your Applications when you want to do it. Serverless architecture is a boon to a CIO/CTO who is also responsible for managing costs.

My advice to CIO/CTO/CEOs: Go for Serverless architecture.

In our next issue we will write on Devops using Serverless Architecture. Nymblsoft is an expert on Serverless architecture planning, migration, support and execution. Contact us at info@nymblsoft.com to begin your serverless journey.
